JEWELRY TREND: The Evil Eye

THE IDEA

Slightly sinister, a strong motif in the overarching Surrealism trend that's bubbling up is the evil eye. Unique and unexpected interpretations are forward and new to the junior market, while traditional motifs in pave settings are a fresh for summer in the contemporary market. As the story goes, the evil eye is believed by many cultures to cause bad luck for the wearer and is usually gifted from someone out of envy or dislike. Wether or not you're superstitious, there's no denying the feeling of a watchful eye.

HOW TO STYLE

Beaded or pave settings are fresh and sophisticated. Rounded eye shapes with green irises or added blood veins (as seen below on the streets of Japan) are punk. Royal blue is a popular color, but there is freedom in color selection to move the look forward. Seen in rings, bracelets, cuffs, charms and necklaces, this graphic is versatile.

I stumbled across a Japanese street style blog that featured loads of images with this trend. Below the break, I've collected some of my favorites.
