THE IDEA
The safety pins pop up most often in the junior market in times when youth revolts. Let me back up and add- when is youth not revolting? So what's interesting about this trend right now, is the way it's being interpreted in the contemporary market. For such a kitschy trend it's easy to brush it off as 'been-there-done-that', but for designers like Tom Binns and Giles & Brother, they're cashing in and OWNING this seemingly simple material.
HOW TO STYLE
Painted neon is current for the junior market, while safety pin shaped cuffs and chokers are forward for contemporary. Pave settings and tangled chains have a rocker vibe. Shapes are short and chunky, creating a larger than life silhouette. Doesn't have to be true to the shape of the pin- play with the rounded edges and straight pins to spark a fresh perspective.
