JEWELRY TREND: Tassels

THE IDEA

More emphasis is being placed on designing our interior spaces to reflect our fashion sense, and that interest is being embraced heavily in the jewelry market. Wearing bits of home decor is fresh, and speaks to the larger Interior Motives trend. Tassels are the jewelry to our curtains, blankets, and pillows, so why shouldn't they embellish our ears, necks, and wrists? With so many ways to style, it's a trend that's easy to translate to any market.

HOW TO STYLE

Materials that work best for the tassel silhouette are chains, beads, feathers, casts, rope, and yarn. Brassy gold frog buttons with chains are opulent and fashion forward (Soo Ihn Kim). Contemporary styles use silk or polyester yarns with beaded embellishments (Lizzie Fortunato), while junior styles include skull charms (Bing Bang) and all over beading (Oscar De La Renta). Feathers are decadent and have a roaring 20s quality (Lanvin).

Thick tassel earrings work best in editorial with slicked back hair for a high fashion feel. Can then be translated into DIY for the savvy consumer. Check the tutorial on Teen Vogue!
